Ingredients

Oatmeal
  • 2/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup bran cereal
  • 2 cups water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Toppings
  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
  • 4 tablespoons half and half
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey

Method

Cooking
  1. Combine the oats, bran cereal, water, and salt in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat and continue cooking for 3-5 minutes until the oatmeal thickens and excess liquid is absorbed.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and egg whites. Whisk immediately while adding the egg whites so they blend smoothly into the oatmeal and help create a thicker texture.
Serving
  1. Split the oatmeal between two bowls. Add the blackberries, half and half, and honey on top before serving.

Notes

Frozen blackberries can be used instead of fresh berries. Thaw them until they are still slightly chilled but no longer frozen for a delicious result.
