Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening (or butter)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • sugar for rolling

Method

Preparation
  1. Combine the white sugar, brown sugar, and shortening until well blended. Add the egg and mix, then incorporate the dry ingredients.
  2. Shape the dough into round portions using a cookie scoop. Coat each dough ball in white sugar and keep the rounded shape without flattening.
Baking
  1. Bake the cookies at 350°F (177°C) for 12 minutes.

Notes

The cookies are especially enjoyable before baking and immediately after baking. After several hours, they become more crisp, creating a texture closer to a traditional sugar cookie.
